Analysis of Electricity Demand and Diesel Power Plant (PLTD) Engine Capacity in Five Villages, Sungai Boh District, Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan Province

Abstract

The availability of electrical energy is a fundamental requirement that supports social, economic, educational, and health activities. However, several rural areas in Indonesia still lack adequate electricity access, including five villages in Sungai Boh District, Malinau Regency, North Kalimantan Province. This study aims to analyze community electricity demand and evaluate the adequacy of the planned Diesel Power Plant (PLTD) capacity as the main power supply. A quantitative approach was employed by calculating electricity demand based on the number of buildings and assumed loads for households, small businesses, and public facilities. The total demand was increased by a 30% reserve margin to ensure system reliability. The results indicate that the total electricity demand of the five villages is 246.91 kW, increasing to 320.99 kW after adding reserve capacity. Therefore, a 400 kW PLTD capacity is sufficient to meet community electricity needs. This study can serve as a reference for rural electrification planning in remote areas.
