Optimization of Computer Network Topology Using Cisco Packet Tracer Simulation with Quality of Service Method in Gang Rumbia Boarding House

Abstract

His study aims to improve the efficiency of computer network topology in the Gang Rumbia boarding
house, JL. A. Yani KM. 13.500, Gambut Subdistrict, Banjar Regency, South Kalimantan. The main
issues include slow internet connection, inefficient IP management, and the increasing number of
connected devices. The method used is simulation with Cisco Packet Tracer and the application of
Quality of Service (QoS) to analyze the performance of two topologies, namely star and hybrid.
Measured parameters include throughput, delay, packet loss, and jitter using experimental and
descriptive approaches. The results show that the star topology excels in throughput, while the hybrid
topology provides more stable performance in terms of delay and jitter, with zero packet loss for both.
Therefore, the hybrid topology is recommended for real-time applications such as video conferencing,
while the star topology is better suited for large data transfers. This research provides practical
recommendations for designing efficient networks in boarding houses or similar densely populated
environments.
